The routine begins before sunrise. Waking during brahma muhurta, the period approximately 90 minutes before sunrise, is considered optimal for mental clarity. After waking the sequence includes drinking warm water to stimulate digestion, tongue scraping, and oil pulling. These practices align oral hygiene with digestive readiness.
Abhyanga or self-massage with warm sesame oil is a central dinacharya practice. It stimulates lymphatic flow, grounds the nervous system, and is particularly recommended for vata constitution. The routine concludes with bathing and breakfast timed to when digestive fire is beginning to build.
