Ginger and Honey for Sore Throats: What Works
By Muthaiah M May 30, 2026 0 comments

Honey has genuine antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It coats and soothes the throat lining, reduces irritation, and has mild antibacterial activity. Several trials have shown honey more effective than over-the-counter cough suppressants for reducing nighttime cough in children over one year. Never give honey to infants under 12 months.

Ginger contains gingerols and shogaols with anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger tea with honey provides warmth and soothes irritated tissue. These remedies do not treat bacterial throat infections. Persistent sore throat with fever or white patches on the tonsils requires a doctor visit.
