The strongest evidence for probiotics is in preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and in managing IBS symptoms. Taking a probiotic alongside antibiotics, a few hours apart, meaningfully reduces disruption to gut bacteria.

Not all probiotic supplements are equal. The strain, dose, and viability at time of use all matter. For general gut support, fermented foods are often more reliable and less expensive than supplements.
